Review: Lucie Arnaz I GOT THE JOB! at 54 Below Plays All Her Songs

It’s been four years since Lucie Arnaz was on the stage at 54 Below.  A lot has changed in four years.  There was a hiatus, in show business and in life, there was a name change at Broadway’s Living Room, there were grandchildren born and hair color changed, and there were changes in attitudes and life philosophies, thanks to the aforementioned hiatus.  But some things didn’t change, and one of the things that didn’t change was the magic to be found when sitting in the seats out front and watching Lucie Arnaz perform her musical memoir cabaret I GOT THE JOB!  Actually, it did change: it got better. The theme music echoed in living rooms across the country, accompanied by the booming male voiceover announcer.

The vivid colors on countless TV sets were ignited and highlighted by the blue curtain and the vibrant red hair that adorned an animated, wide-eyed, and tuxedoed female doll. All the flair was there, and it was the weekly start of something good. (Full article here)

Lucie Arnaz is working on a film to depict the real life behind 'I Love Lucy'

After a lifetime of shadow boxing, Lucie Arnaz is finally celebrating her late parents.

She’s executive producer of a new film called “Lucy and Desi,” starring Cate Blanchett as TV's queen of comedy, Lucille Ball. Oscar- and Emmy-winner Aaron Sorkin is writing the narrative about a couple trying to juggle family and their 1950s sit-com, “I Love Lucy.”

She’ll also salute her father, Cuban bandleader and actor Desi Arnaz, in an April 3 benefit for the College of the Desert Foundation at the McCallum Theatre, titled, “Stepping Out For College of the Desert: Lucie Arnaz – Latin Roots.” (Full article here)

The New York Pops Underground with Lucie Arnaz

On September 25, Feinstein’s/54 Below was packed with supporters for the New York PopsEd Fundraising event to help support music programs in all five boroughs of New York City. The event chairs were Hillary and Bill Weldon.

The star of the evening was the always popular Lucie Arnaz who took the stage re-arranging things (she does have a flair for decorating) with her long time musical director/arranger/friend Ron Abel, and Jeff Barone on guitar, Tom Hubbard on bass and Dan Weiner on drums. Lucie is, as they say in the vernacular, “one helluva performer.” (Full Article).

RECALLING AMAZING FEMALE PERFORMERS OVERLOOKED IN SEASON OF FESTIVALS

It hasn’t been all music festivals and showcases in April and May. Some of the best shows I’ve seen recently, when not writing about Coachella, Stagecoach, Tachevah and Joshua Tree, were concerts by women.

Specifically, singers Lucie Arnaz, Diane Schuur, A.J. Lambert and flutist Holly Hofmann. (Full Article)

Sometimes it’s fun to stop being a reviewer and just be a fan, and I am a huge fan of Lucie Arnaz. She’s a consummate performer, born to a magical lineage (Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz) and the associated advantages of rubbing elbows with Hollywood and musical legends. Arnaz is a dynamo, using her solid acting chops to add multiple dimensions to each number in a show she said “showed the arc of romance.”

Indeed, she did show all aspects of relationships with her smart song choices. (Full Article)

SEVEN QUESTIONS FOR LUCIE ARNAZ

Many think of you as an actress, but it seems you’ve been concentrating more on music lately.

For 27 years I have been doing concerts and performing in nightclubs, and I love, love, love doing it. I wouldn’t be doing it if it wasn’t for my father’s influence. When he died, I found tapes of his, some original recordings that no one had unless they were real collectors. I started listening to them and hearing what his big-band days were like. I wanted to be him! I wanted to have a band and perform like him. (Full Article)

Lucie Arnaz is for real - Daughter of famous parents does not disappoint

Lucie Arnaz is no light weight. As someone who is the daughter of two famous entertainers, she has the immediate problem of being tagged a nostalgia act, or worse, someone riding the coattails of her parents.
But there is not magic dust in the RRAZZ Room, even though it can sometimes seem like it. Lucie is a very professional singer because she has paid her dues. (Full Article)
