Lucie Arnaz, Karen Ziemba and More Perform A Musical Salute to Marvin Hamlisch

Encompass New Opera Theatre presents A Musical Salute!, honoring and celebrating the music of Tony Award winner Marvin Hamlisch, Nov. 20 at the National Arts Club. Performing songs from the Hamlisch songbook are Lucie Arnaz (Dirty Rotten Scoundrels), Brian d'Arcy James (Shrek), Kevin Earley (A Tale of Two Cities), Lesley Gore (Smokey Joe's Café), Emma Hunton (Spring Awakening), Capathia Jenkins (Caroline, or Change), Karen Ziemba (Curtains) and composer Donald Pippin. Composer-lyricist Craig Carnelia, writer-lyricist Sheldon Harnick and Pippin provide recollections of Hamlisch's work. (Full Article)

Not only can all sitcom runners look to "I Love Lucy" as the sitcom that truly started it all, but all show creators who incorporate music in their programs can thank it as well.

For while many fans cite the comedy and chemistry of the legendary 1950s series as the thing they love best, others adore the sounds. Lucy fan has a perfect dress for the ball

Lucas bought the gown from Jane Withers, the former child star who later played Josephine the Plumber on TV commercials for Comet cleanser. Lucy had originally donated it as a sale item for a Hollywood fundraising event.

Learning of the upcoming Canadian sale of her mother's gown, Lucy's daughter Lucie Arnaz sent Lucas a letter of support. "She said, 'I know my mother would be thrilled and proud to know her clothing is going to such good use,' " he said. (Full Article)
